(Translation – आए कुछ अब्र कुछ शराब आए – Faiz Ahmed Faiz)
After the clouds have filled my cup of joy full
To all the troubles in the world, I’ll play a gracious host
Let the moonlight descend from the stairs of heaven
When the angel’s hand serves a chalice of sunbeam
Let the charge of passion surge, let the blood in veins flow
When the desire betrays coyness and the beloved arrives without a veil
It’s not easy settling scores with life’s disdain, but i tried
Unbeknownst to me, I wrote you name in refrains
There’s no end, to the pain of losing you, to this tyrannical reign
The heart suffers mutinies unbound, every single day
The silence resonates aloud like an echo
To return and answer the questions, I never asked
‘Faiz’, every step of the journey was a destination,
Who can doubt the success of my travails?
