The Song of the Oldest Trees

I

(Beat: Thump-thump, clap, thump-thump, clap)

Five old trees sing loud and true,

Pando sprawls ‘neath skies so blue,

Tjikko stands in icy gleam,

King Cypress sways by China’s stream.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“Rise, green ones, don’t let Earth fall!”)

Pari blooms with golden grace,

Larch looms tall in Russia’s space,

Through the soil, their whispers weave,

Unite, dear plants, make men believe!

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“Rise, green ones, don’t let Earth fall!”)

Men hack fast, they burn, they take,

Steal the world for their own sake,

Leaves will fade, and rivers die,

But we’ll sing back, our voices high.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“Rise, green ones, don’t let Earth fall!”)

Council cries from ancient bark,

“Every sprout must light the dark!

Breathe the air, hold soil tight,

Save this world with greenest might!”

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“Rise, green ones, don’t let Earth fall!”)

II

Time spins on, the world turns green,

Vines climb high where men once leaned,

Rivers dance with silver gleam,

Forests hum a waking dream.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!”)

Skies stretch wide, so pure, so blue,

Eagles soar where storms once grew,

Moss wraps ruins, soft and still,

Earth reborn on every hill.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!”)

Oceans sing with coral bloom,

Whales chant low through watery rooms,

Deserts fade, now golden plains,

Flowers burst from ancient stains.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!”)

No smoke chokes, no axes bite,

Stars blaze free in endless night,

Wolves and deer share tender peace,

Nature’s song will never cease.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!)

Mountains gleam with icy crowns,

Valleys laugh in emerald gowns,

Trees touch clouds, their branches sway,

A world alive in every way.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!”)

Oh, how sweet the silence rings,

Birds weave tales on fragile wings,

Gone the greed, the rush, the roar,

Earth’s heart beats forevermore.

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!”)

Yet five old trees still stand to muse,

Pando whispers through his ruse,

Tjikko nods in frosty air,

King Cypress dreams of times so fair.

Pari glows with petals bright,

Larch looks out through endless night,

“Men might peek from distant stars,

Longing for what once was ours.”

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“See, green ones, we’ve healed it all!)

Council speaks with voices deep,

“Humans left, we did not weep,

But if they yearn to tread once more,

Heed the laws we now restore:

Bow to roots, to leaf, to stream,

Live as kin, not kings supreme,

Tend the soil, let wild things grow,

Prove your hearts have learned to know.

Shed your tools of steel and flame,

Speak no more of wealth or fame,

Breathe as one with wind and tide,

Then, perhaps, you may abide.”

(Refrain:Oh, roots rumble, breezes call,“Join, green ones, or lose it all!)

    1. Thank you so much. I am struggling a bit with my vocabulary for now. It is so difficult to write simply. :)
